White Stork, Vondelpark, 21 May 2004

This stork has bred for a while during spring 2004 at tennis club Festina in the Vondelpark. The nest was build in a poplar that was cut in the middle after it was struck by lightning. By order of the tennis club three planks were attached to prevent the nest from blowing away. The un ringed wife had to breed alone. The male, a well known stork from the zoo Artis, visited only occasionally. On 28 May the nest was deserted. I was near the nest during four days to make pictures. I got so many questions from the well educated visitors of the tennis club that I read all about storks in the Handbook of Western Palearctic Birds.
