1. Starling box in American oak
This box was placed in an American oak 13 August 1999. Picture from a distance. In 2000 and 2001 starlings had a nest. On 11 May 2002 the box was empty. Picture of the inside. On 30 June 2002 I inspected the box again and, to my surprise, found a nest with young great tits. In 2003 and 2004 the box was not occupied. In 2005 I found a nest of the great tit again. In February 2011 the tree was felled. The box was left behind on the ground. I found two nests of great tits upon a nest of mice. I repaired and stained the roof and on 3 April 2011 I placed the box in a wood in Amsterdam. It was immediately occupied by great tit. On 11 December 2013 I removed the nestbox because it was needed for replacement of a starling box in Amsterdam that had to be prepared for use in Beleef de Lente. On 27 February 2014 the starling box was put back in place with two cams. On 8 March 2014 the box was placed in a park in Buitenveldert. The box is the home of a squirrel. In March 2020 I removed a dead squirrel. In 2020 the starling occupied the box.

2. Big green box in mixed forest
This box, produced February 2000, was placed in an American oak. Picture 18 July 2002. In 2001 starlings bred, without success. In May dead young were found. On 19 May 2002 a nest with 10 great tit eggs. Unfortunately, the nest was abandoned. When I removed the nest on 13 July 2002 I found a pigeon head underneath. Maybe a marten had carried it in? I didn't check the box in 2003. On 4 March 2004 I attached a metal plate with a hole of 30 mm to protect future clutches of great tit. On 25 May 2008 young great tits. On 11 April 2009 I discovered that the tree will be felled, see picture. A pair of great tits was present around the box. On 31 July 2009 I placed the box in an oak close to box no. 20. See picture of present location. On 5 April 2010 I removed the metal plate hoping that starlings will use the box. On 17 October 2011 I removed a starling nest which was built on top of a nest of great tit. On 26 October 2013 I removed a nest of starlings. On New Year's Day 2018 I repaired a hole in the roof. On 18 March 2020 I cleaned the box and removed a starling nest.
